ICAN Immersion Take 1

So, I am way behind on blogging, but these are some pictures from Interpreter Certification Advancement Network (ICAN) Immersion back in May.  We stayed in this beautiful house with 8 bedrooms in Midway, UT North of Park City.  It was amazing and brand new.  We had a lot of workshops, but we also did a lot of eating and had a lot of fun too!  There are 15 of us who are mentees, and there were 3 interpreting mentors and 4 Deaf Language mentors there.  It was awesome!! A few people seemed to have a problem figuring out some of the customs of living with Deaf people though, because mysteriously the bathroom doors would end up closed with no one inside.  All the Deaf people would be waiting outside the bathroom doing the potty dance with no one actually in the bathroom!! Needless to say, it was a problem throughout the weekend.

Below is a video of what it was like at Immersion.  This video shows a game where we each had a portion of a story and the person who was "it" had to put the parts together into a coherent story and get it passed off.  You will enjoy this more if you understand sign.
