The true purpose of living
Tonight, as we always do, at bed time I was reading President Monson's biography to Abigail. We are to the part that talks about when he was receiving the call of an apostle of the Lord. During the general conference when he was called to be an apostle President McKay said something that really touched me. He said this, "The true purpose of life is the perfection of humanity through individual effort, under the guidance of God's inspiration. Real life is response to the best within us. To be alive only to appetite, pleasure, pride, moneymaking and not to goodness and kindness, purity and love, poetry, music, flowers, stars, God and eternal hopes, is to deprive oneself of the real joy of living." Wow!!! We spend so much time worrying about making a living or the homes or things we would like to someday attain that those unimportant things can take over the good things in life. How sad it is when we forget to do things as simple as being kind to others and enjoy God's gifts to us--- poetry, music, flowers, stars not to mention our Savior!! Such a great message.
