Abigail is very close to crawling. She gets up on her hands and knees all the time. She just isn't quite sure what to do once she's on them. She is also scoots herself back into corners really well.
Abigail has also been teething, complete with runny nose and drool. She can't chomp down hard enough on her teething toys. It was cute, because the other day she had snot in her nose that was bothering her. She kept on trying to blow it out of her nose. Matt took the liberty of getting a tissue and asking her to blow. I thought it was funny he was asking a 6 month old baby to blow. Anyway, I was very impressed that she had figured out on her own how to blow her nose, aside from knowing she needed a tissue too. But the biggest news of all is....
Abigail graduated from Physical Therapy!!!
Many of you know that Abigail has been going to Primary Children's for physical therapy. She had torticollis on the left side of her neck, which means that the muscles on that side of the neck were extra strong. Therefore, she favored turning her head to the other side giving her an irregularly shaped head. I'm sure Abigail will be so excited to not have to do her stretches anymore.
We are just as excited as she is to not have to do this any more.
Abigail still has a little bit of a misshaped head, but it is way better than it was. At this point, it would be cosmetic if we wanted to have a helmet put on her, which would have to come out of pocket. A helmet is a huge ordeal and costs around $2000 on it's own. So, we will not be doing that. We will continue with the positioning we've been doing to improve the shape of her head. The physical therapist said that we would probably only see a 1 or 2 cm difference, but that is enough to make me happy. Her normal doctor is convinced that flat heads round out on their own. Just the fact that we took her to physical therapy is more than her normal doctor recommended. We are very happy we did though.
From going to physical therapy we found out that Abigail's back muscles are also extra strong, overpowering her stomach muscles. The physical therapist had us buy a bumbo and have Abigail do little baby sit ups to boot. We will continue our work with strengthening her tummy muscles, and helping her sit independently as she is a little bit behind in that area of development.
A couple of pictures of Abigail in her bumbo at Grandma & Grandpa Van Dusen's.
