So, Saturday night we were reading scriptures with Abigail out of the Book of Mormon board book my parents gave us. Nowadays we just look at the pictures and talk about the story so we can teach her more detail about the story than the board book gives. Anyhow, we were talking about the brother of Jared and how he had stones aka rocks that Jehovah made glow so that they could see in the boats. To help drive the message home we had her turn the lights on and off to show her that we have electricity, but the brother of Jared didn't have electricity or windows or doors for light on the boats. Then we had her go get her rock collection and we showed her the picture of Jehovah's finger touching the rocks to light them up. Then she looked at her rocks and touched the picture of Jehovah's finger to make her rocks glow. She just kept saying, "Touch my rocks, make light." We did our best to explain to her that we don't need rocks to glow since we have electricity. We showed her how easy it was to turn the light on in our house, because we have electricity. Therefore we don't need our rocks to light up.
I think she eventually got it. Regardless, it was really fun to see her experience the scriptures in that way. She really was trying to apply them to her own life. We just had to direct her a little bit in what the take-away from that story is. We had a fun learning experience together though.
